Cancer Insurance Cover – Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cancer Cover?

Cancer insurance cover pays a lump sum benefit on the diagnosis of cancer of specified severity. More severe forms of cancer qualify for full payment i.e. the cover amount chosen on your policy. Severe forms of cancer would ordinarily include: Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer, Bowel Cancer, Gynae Cancer, Stomach Cancer and late-stage Skin Cancer.

Less severe low-level cancers would normally qualify for partial payment of 50% of your chosen cover amount up to a maximum of €15,000.

How much cover do I need?

You are not limited to a certain cover amount but we would generally recommend in the region of €50,000 – €100,000 cover, dependent on your personal level of affordability, with the benefit allowing you to ease the financial burden and perhaps avail of a wider choice of advancing treatments.

What if I already have a serious medical condition?

It will depend on the nature of the condition and it is best to discuss this in confidence prior to making any application.

For how long can I be covered?

You can choose the cover term; up to 40 years, to a maximum of age 75. You can avail of cover up to age 60 and include your partner on the same policy.

What is a Continuation Option?

For a small additional cost, a continuation option is a very valuable benefit which allows you to extend your cover under a new policy. You can use this option at any stage throughout your policy term, without having to provide any fresh evidence of health.

Can I include Life Insurance on the same policy?

Yes, the cover is completely independent of any Life Cover even if included in the same policy.

Is the premium fixed?

Yes, we quote only guaranteed premiums without reviews. Noting that, if you choose to inflation protect your cover (3% per annum) by including indexation, the cost will increase at a rate of 4.5% per annum.
